HIGHLIGHTS OF HOMESCIENCE DEPARTMENT

The Department is a Pioneer in Homescience course in Andhra Pradesh.

B.Sc (Homescience with Computer Applications)

The syllabi for B.Sc. (H.Sc.) courses are different from the common core syllabi of Andhra University. It includes 3 job-oriented subjects - Preschool Education, Interior Decoration and Food Service Management (with Baking and Confectionery Practicals). A two-semester course in Computer Applications in Homescience as also a paper on Basic Research Methods and a Special Elective (Entrepreneurship Development/Special Project Work) add to the uniqueness of the B.Sc Homescience course offered by St Joseph’s College for Women.

Job Placement : 15 day Placement for Home Science students at places of individual interest like Hotels, Pathological labs, schools, bakery, Textile centres, Hospitals and so on.

The Department participated in a World Bank aided Capacity Building Project on Street Food Vendors which is a nationwide program under the aegis of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

The Department has undertaken a project with CRY ( Prevalence of Story Telling in Visakhapatnam)
